As a result, this crime generates millions in losses for the country.<\/p>\n<p><strong>In 2023<\/strong>, for example, <strong>Rio de Janeiro recorded a 160% increase in cases<\/strong>. In addition, the problem has spread to S\u00e3o Paulo, the Northeast region, Minas Gerais and other states. <strong>In 2024 alone, thefts caused losses of R$26 million and led to 54 deaths.<\/strong> In the Northeast, criminals have also broken into wind farms, which has further compromised the region&#8217;s energy matrix.<\/p>\n<p>Given this worrying scenario, <strong>this article analyzes the progress of this problem in Brazil<\/strong>. To do so, it provides data compiled over the last three years on the theft of copper cables in different regions of the country.<\/p><div id=\"ez-toc-container\" class=\"ez-toc-v2_0_81 ez-toc-custom Criminals damage electrical networks, causing <strong>interruptions in the power supply and generating millions in losses.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h4 data-start=\"976\" data-end=\"1008\">Telecommunications sector \ud83d\udcf1<\/h4>\n<p data-start=\"1010\" data-end=\"1224\">Thieves <strong>stole millions of meters of cable<\/strong>, which directly affected both residential users and businesses.
