Rio de Janeiro has always been a state with a large presence and influence of criminal groups throughout its territory. In the last 16 years, for example, the Greater Rio region under the control of armed groups has increased by 105.73%. Currently, according to police sources, it is estimated that there are around 116,000 criminals in the state of Rio de Janeiro.
